But I cannot lay claim to this colossal beast. No. Credit must be given where credit is due. And this beauty is due to a man among men--Wess! My brother. Inspired by the Primanti Brothers, he's proven that vegans aren't sissies. And they can hang with the best of em. And this sandwich passes the test.
Even women can eat it them too. But I warn you...there's no being lady-like with this one.
Are you hungry yet?
Ingredients:
Tempeh
BBQ Sauce
1/2 Purple Onion sliced into strips
Directions for the Tempeh:
Preheat oven to 400. Slice tempeh about 1/4 inch thick. Slice onion into strips. In an 8X8 pan, spray with non-stick spray, spread out some bbq sauce, then lay out tempeh, and sprinkle onions over it, then top it all off with remaining bbq sauce, and cover pan with foil. I double cover it. Bake for 45 minutes- 1 hour.
*Here's a great recipe for bbq sauce. It's so easy to make, and I think it's better than any store bought kind. (Although when I made these sandwiches last night I cheated and used a pre-bottled kind.)
Ingredients for Fries:
Potato or Sweet Potato
Directions for Fries:
Preheat oven to 400. Cut up potatoes into wedges about a 1/4 inch thick. Toss in olive oil and season with desired spices (I used sea salt, and a six pepper blend). Place a cooling rack on top of a cookie sheet. Lay the potatoes out on top of the cooling sheet without crowding them too much. Bake the potatoes for 30 minutes. Then take them out of the oven, coat them again in olive oil and seasoning and put them back in the oven for 15-20 minutes at 425. This will yield fries that are crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle!
Ingredients for Coleslaw:
1/2 cup Veganaise
1-2 TBS. Brown Rice Vinegar
1/2 tsp. Sea Salt
1/2 tsp. Celery Seed
1 tsp. Sucanat
Directions for Coleslaw: Mix together dressing, then add to slaw and stir.
When everything is made it's time to assemble the sandwiches. We used sourdough from Panera, and toasted it, then added our tempeh, then the fries, and lastly the coleslaw.
This is quite the marriage of flavors. You'll be stuffed if you make it all of the way through! It's Tim the Toolman Taylor Grunt worthy!

You are so funny! Thanks for making such delicious and fantastic food that makes me feel like a man! Yum!!!
