In previous days I worked at a summer camp. 7 summers to be exact. And every year I lived for the summer. It was by far my favorite time of the year. It was hard to leave that place over and over again.
But...
We just so happen to be joining a ministry that has a summer camp that is absolutely exploding! If you watched the video in the previous post, you saw that over 109,000 students went to camp last year and over 52,000 accepted Christ. They're currently right in the thick of this year's camp season, and hoping to see even more come. We got the opportunity to see the camps in action and what an experience it was.
It started with this pilot taking us on a 45 minute plane ride...
We got to see the beauty that makes up the Philippine Islands.
And then we saw the camp...
We circled back to the airport and landed, and then made our way over in a van. We got there in time to hear the introduction to things, and all the rules being laid out.
But the night was only beginning. We took a quick tour of the camp, grabbed some dinner and then we were ready to see what the night had in store for us.
They began with team cheers and giving out the scores for the day...
And then had a big opening to the theme, a drama and into a time of worship...
The message began and the students listened while they were challenged with the Gospel, and given the opportunity to accept Christ. Hundreds came forward to be dealt with about Salvation and a new life in Christ.
For those who were serious about this decision, they then went to the cafeteria for a time of counseling.
And for those who accepted Christ, the next morning they were given the opportunity to be baptized.
It's hard to put into words what our short trip there was like. Greg shared with us, for some of these kids it's the first time they've slept in a bed, had running water, and were fed a decent meal. It's about meeting their needs, and showing them there is a God who knows more about them then they think. A God who loves them and desires a relationship with them. To save them out of their darkness and into His light! All I know is...I was made for this!
