Holy Humid!

Currently, we are in Houston.
Got in on Sunday night after a great morning at Grace Baptist Church in Gilmer, Texas.  We are staying with one of Jordan's good friends from Hutch, Junaid.  He's studying to be a doctor.  He's a great guy and we're glad for the visit with him.  We talked a lot about running over dinner, and he told me I needed to go to Rice University for my run, where he went for undergrad.  And right he was.
The whole run was so picturesque.
There were so many people out running and walking too, though you can't tell from any of my pictures cause I didn't want anyone to think I was creepy, snapping pictures of them.
It really was magical.  And most of the way looked like this.  Trees on either side, dirt trail beneath you, you'd hardly know you were in the city.
There were only a few minor problems...we didn't leave the house to get started till we saw the sun peeking out at 6:30.  Bad mistake.  It was already so hot.  I also switched my runs around this week, so Mondays were now my long days instead of a full recovery day.  And the problem with that is, I rarely eat dinner on Sunday night.  Just a snack.  So I had no energy.  I also didn't get to hydrate properly.  So I was pretty miserable after about 1 1/2 miles.  I had set out to do 8, but by mile 7 I was about to cry.  I gave up.  I wanted to finish, but I seriously did not feel strong, or think I could do it.  Oh the mental game!  Maybe it was for the best.  Maybe I could have done more.  But I'll try harder next time.
This was like the worst time ever.  But it all wasn't bad I guess.
Mile 1 : 9:50
Mile 2 : 10:35
Mile 3 : 15:42
Mile 4 : 10:55
Mile 5 : 10:57
Mile 6 : 11:17
Mile 7 : 10:25
Well I'll be seeing Rice again this week, so next time I will know what to do better.  Mostly I'm glad for the ability to get out there, and enjoy the whole process.  And I love the sense of camaraderie with everyone else out there.  I just love running.
