This past weekend I celebrated my 27th Birthday. There are so many things to rejoice in and be thankful for. Though I have not made it to my goal weight yet...key word being yet...I'm in the best shape of my life! And because of that, this Birthday was so different from others. In the past I would have eaten beyond the point of being full, and had loads of birthday cake to celebrate. Though we did have some good eats this weekend (recipes coming soon of our delicious creations), our celebration was not centered around food. My brother and his wife came up for the birthday festivities and a fun time was had by all. We started Saturday off with an 18 mile bike ride out at Smithville Lake. One of my families favorite spots to go ride. Wess and I hung together the whole time, and the dude rocked it on his road bike. He informed me halfway through that he only had a one-speed, so he did all of the work! WOW! What a rock-star.
Brittany and I have known each other for quite a while now, and have been roommies on several occasions. I love her like a sister and she's one of my all time favorite people. She came over on Saturday for Birthday cake and games, but sadly...I did not win. They didn't even let me win on my Birthday...punks!
And on Sunday, my actual Birthday, my Dad and I went for a run. Though we didn't run together, he's still faster than me, it was awesome to be out at the park with him. We went to my favorite place to run while in KC, Macken Park. We were out there by 6 am, and that was a good thing, cause it was gettin hot quick. We've been under heat advisories for like a week now, yuck. Anyway, my schedule on Sunday had me at 7 miles. I didn't know if I was gonna make it, but I did. I couldn't believe it. And with great time too!
On my Dad's Birthday we ran a 5k, and it was so hard for me to actually complete it. A little over 4 months later, we were running 7 miles on my Birthday. And though it was tough, I still don't think it was as hard as that 5k seemed to me. You can check out my run here. But here is this breakdown of my miles:
Mile One: 9:46
Mile Two: 10:18
Mile Three: 10:57
Mile Four: 11:01
Mile Five: 10:16
Mile Six: 10:36
Mile Seven: 8:03
I could not believe that last mile. I was so excited when I saw that. And that is why this Birthday was like no other. It's funny...some people said you're supposed to do fun stuff on your Birthday, but this is now what I love to do. I've never done anything like this in my life, and it's a good feeling to be doing so much. I feel so tough.
Here's to being healthy and in good shape forever!
